IT Consultants and Dealers: Windows 11 & WMIC For WIn Patch 25H2 - EzServer and DavisToolkit Errors with FIX

A. EzServer Versions failing to start due to - WMIC on Windows 11

As part of the deprecation of the WMI command-line (WMIC) utility, it is disabled by default on Windows 11. This article provides steps about adding the WMIC capability to Windows 11, needed for some software to work properly, call to GPU Such as DavisToolkit for Ez3D-i or other command line entries or flickering ports / services not starting. 

EzServer Versions lower than 5.5.3 - Server Control Pannel might flicker services, Saving, Failed to connect post update by MSE on 9/10/2026 and up. 

•  Create Database Backup/ensure last good backup :

• Solution: Follow the update steps. Determine which version EzServer is in use by checking Add or Remove Programs* 
• Follow the updates until updated to 5.5.3 (Or newer) 

  Previous versions before 2.3.4 they must update to 2.3.4.
  
  Current Version: | Update to Version (Download Link)
  Version 2.3.4 to version 3.0.8

  Version 3.0.8 to 4.1

  Version 4.1 to  5.1.1.

  Version 5.1.1 to  5.3.3

  Version 5.3.3 to  5.5.3 

  Example: If the version of EzServer is on 4.1.3 you will need to update to 5.1.1 then 5.3.3 then finally to 5.5.3.
  or if the version of EzServer is on 5.3.1 You will simply need to update to 5.5.3 
   
• Once EzServer is updated to 5.5.3 which solves the Windows Update problem with EzServer EzDent-i and Ez3D-i will also need to be updated to recent version as well to matching version as outlined on update guide to the Capture PC and ALL workstations runing the EzSeries software: 
  
  EzDent-i                  - Workstations (2D/3D Users)
  Download: V3.5.3
  
  Ez3D-i
  Ez3D-i                      - Workstations (3D Users) 
  Download: V3.5.5
  
  Once EzServer 5.5.3 and EzDent-i/Ez3D-i is updated; site can progress and update to latest version if desired (Highly Recommended) 
  
  Update to latest version: 6.2.3  

           Note: EzDent-i and Ez3D-i will also need to be updated to recent version as well to matching version as outlined on update guide. 

 

B. DavisToolkit Error due to WMIC on Windows 11 Removal 

        

• Davis Toolkit for 3D Might show message 'Davis Tookit for 3D requires an NVIDIA GPU and the latest graphics driver'. Despite having both* 
• Command line scripts: might show WMIC error when trying to execute
• Other WMIC related errors: such as 'Version X.X.X. not installed' when the proper version is* etc.. 
  
  Solution: Update using Windows 1125H2 WMIC Temporary mitigation guide (below section) 

Please note WMIC is End-Of-LIFE 'EOL' on Windows 11 25H2. All previous versions is optional and the following guide can assist with enabling that optional capability.

Steps: 

1. Download the wmic_dlc.zip file. 
2. Extract the contents of the ZIP file to a local folder. Copy the containing Wmic_dlc folder to C:\
   
   
3. Open PowerShell as an administrator, by typing in Windows Search 'Powershell' and select Run as Administrator
   
   
    
4. Navigate (Change directory) to the extracted C:\wmic_dlc folder, by Typing CD C:\wmic_dlc
   
   
    
5. Run the following command: Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope Process
   
   
    
6. If you're prompted to change the execution policy, select Yes, by typing 'Y' and hit enter. 
   
   
    
7. Run the following command: .\install.ps1
   
   
    
8. Confirm that the script reports: WMIC has been installed successfully.
   
   

• The installation script copies the WMIC files to the following directory and registers the required WMIC aliases: C:\Windows\System32\wbem.
